Our second annual tournament was a great success, with eight teams participating. The teams were separated into two four-team pools and played each team in their pool during the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning games. The order of finish in pool play sorted teams into two brackets; the top two teams from each pool entered the Championship bracket, with a chance to win the tournament championship trophy, while the bottom two teams from each pool entered the consolation bracket. Each team got the chance to play two games in their bracket, meaning each team was able to play a total of 5 games.
In the opening round of the consolation bracket, Anaheim 12th and first-year tournament participant Compton 1st defeated Garden Grove 2nd and Lynwood 2nd (respectively) to move into the 5th-place game. Anaheim 12th prevailed over Compton 1st in this game to finish the tournament in 5th place. In the 7th-place game, Garden Grove 2nd recorded their first win in tournament play as they edged Lynwood 2nd.
In the championship bracket, we had two first-year participants match up in the first round as Salt Lake City defeated Westchester 3rd to move into the championship game. On the other side of the bracket, Hook-It-Up (Carson) made it past Bingy and into the finals. In the 3rd-place game, Westchester 3rd prevailed over Bingy.
The championship game matched two squads who had gone undefeated throughout the tournament in Hook-it-Up (Carson) and Salt Lake City. After an initial feeling-out period, Hook-it-Up cranked up their defense, pushing to a 12-point halftime lead and kept a double-digit lead through most of the second half, winning the tournament championship by a 52-42 score.
Tua from Salt Lake City won the three-point shootout for 2012.
